In my opinion, RARELY do ads get by with simply sound effects and visuals (and no copy).

Today's exception: LG's commercials (from last month) for NCAA March Madness. (Again, these ads fall into the category - even with no sound - of ads that visually catch my attention at the gym.)

The description of the ads: "Watch NCAA® March Madness® live on the new LG Arena, and show your fanaticism by claiming your seat in the LG College Sports Stadium."

Find out more about the partnership at and also in this short news clip.

Here are the ads:

Chapstick commercial

Here's the Chapstick commercial I've seen on TV for months now... I only just found it on YouTube. And even though the user who posted it is not a fan, I really like its simplicity.
Chapstick is a simple product and I don't think their commercials should be anything too fancy.
The art direction is clear, easy to understand and enjoyable, in my opinion, and so is the copy. See for yourself!

U by Kotex

Ok, this is officially my first feminine hygiene post... And I'll try to keep it clean! (Hahaha, I couldn't help myself!)

I saw the commercial below last night and it just struck me. Simply, this is not your average maxi pad commercial. And I'm usually not a fan of sarcasm, but I think for this commercial, the actress reads the copy perfectly. Check out the ad, "Reality Check," below, for "U by Kotex." (I found it on their YouTube page.) It's very clear why this commercial stands out from the crowd...

Isn't this commercial so much less annoying than those Mother Nature ads from Tampax? UGH!
Also, I think the black and neon colors are very out-of-the ordinary choices by the Kotex brand.

(Find out more about "U By Kotex" on their Facebook page.)
*Below are some screenshots from and* screenshot
(On a personal note, I could have definitely benefited from the moral support that offers when I was 13... but we still had dial-up back then! I, like many other women, too clearly remember the day my mom ran down the hall shouting to my father that I had officially become a woman!!! MORTIFIED.) screenshot

"Blueberry Pancakes" and Bisquick's "Pancake Lovers Unite" ad

Has anyone seen the recent ad from Bisquick with the tag, "Pancake Lovers Unite," featuring the children's song "Blueberry Pancakes" by Frances England?

It makes me all gooey and melty on the inside, just like warm maple-syrup drenched blueberry pancakes!

(I'll post it when I find it!)

Wendy's Fish Fillet

Sometimes with competitive advertising, all you need is the truth.

(And some creative swimming question mark fish...)

Wonder what's really in McDonald's Filet-O-Fish???

Doritos spoofs!

I have to share two hilarious Doritos spoofs I found searching YouTube for the Axe Rise shower gel commercials (still can't find them there yet...). Check 'em out!

Have you seen  Dove's new commercial for their "Damage Therapy" shampoos and conditioners? The ad features the song "My Favorite Things" (from The Sound of Music). It's wonderful!  (And much different from the Mastercard ad from a few years back.) I just love everything about it - the images, the acting, the HAIR! When I'm able to embed it, I'll definitely post again, but for now, just go to the link!

Inspired by this Dove ad, I sought out some of their other commercials. Here are a few beautiful ads for Dove hair products, as well as some ads for L'Oreal featuring Evangeline Lilly (who has gorgeous locks!!)

(Links: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7)

Why I Love Zappos! never stops surprising me!  ...I ordered shoes at 1:00 pm last Thursday and they arrived at my doorstep at noon Friday! That's LESS THAN 24-HOURS SHIPPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd like to show you the e-mails I received from them below; the first notifies me that my shipping has been upgraded via "Special priority processing," and the second is the final shipping notification. The first e-mail definitely makes me feel like a valued customer, and a SPECIAL one! And I love the language of the second e-mail... it's so fun that it made me really get excited about my shoe delivery! As they say, "YAY!"

You can learn more about Zappos and spend some time with the brand by visiting their blog, their Twitter or their Facebook page. Check out some of their commercials at (There you can also find employee-centric videos such as "Why do people work at Zappos" and "What is Zappos?") ...visit for more corporate videos

And while I'm not a big fan of their current advertising (the red headed puppet REALLY creeps me out!), here's a cool behind-the-scenes video, "The Making of the Zappets." (I will say that the end of this ad is pretty funny though!) Here's an article from AdWeek about these ads and Zappos' highly-respected and well-known customer service.

I also found a hilarious Lady Gaga "Telephone" parody from "Zappos TV." (It's featured at the end of this post.) Finally, you can see an ABC News story about Zappos by Nightline at the very bottom of the post, too.

HP Touch PC and Printers

Wow - Have you seen the HP Photosmart Premium Printer with TouchSmart commercials? The colors are so vivid! I can only imagine what the print quality is like. And what kind of apps you'd actually used with a printer... I would have never imagined a map app for printers! It's "the world's first internet connected home printer."

The copy: "Now your sense of touch is also a sense of direction" .... "Touch the web, print the web."

Here's the ad, featuring the song "A-Punk" by Vampire Weekend:

(See a demonstration of the printer here.)

And the ads for the HP TouchSmart PC's are equally colorful and fun to watch!

(Also airing, "Experience")

I like the "Hand Clap" commercial, below, too. Well-chosen audio and zippy visuals...

Lexmark's Ink Monsters

Have you seen Lexmark's  Ink Monsters?  (They are very adorable little guys...)
I guess Lexmark had to find a new way to compete with HP, this time using the cute-factor!

"Ink Monsters" (30 sec)

"Inkosaurus" (15 sec.)

 (I found these ads on

Oh, and I found an Ink Monster on, too... here's a screenshot:

K&G Fashion Superstore

I am so happy when I see great ads from unexpected brands!
Here are two of the latest commercials for K and G Fashion Superstore...

(Found these ads on

Intel commercial, "Generations"

A very creative commercial from Intel...

(We all remember the first time we logged online, the annoying noise of the dial-up modem, the AOL sign-on screen, the snail-paced loading websites, etc. etc.!)

Bank of America (Solutions)

I think it's fun to see banks come up with creative commercial ideas. Bank of America  has two ads running now that I really like, one for, and another for "Reminders."  I can't find the "Reminders" ad online yet, so here's "Solutions..."

Axe Rise Shower Gel

Dozing off watching TV late last night, I made the mistake of not jotting down an ad I saw and wanting to blog about... all I could remember was girls, soap and "What's my name?"... I had to think really hard today to figure out what the commercial was for... pretty girls? soap? dumb guys? DUH - AXE!!!

Doing some research to find the ads for Axe Rise Morning Shower Gel, I started at and then found (you'll need a video camera and microphone to take the "dirty test") and

...I'm sure you're waiting for the actual commercial I saw... here are the links for "School" (that's the one that aired on MTV last night) and "Diner."

Wondering what made me want to post about the ads? Why I remembered the commercial in the morning and thought about it throughout the day? The INTERACTIVITY...  and the fact that I actually wanted to see the commercial again!

While I'm waiting to find the ads on YouTube, here's "So Cute" from two years ago... such an out-there concept!

404 Error Pages Reloaded

 Great article!

Walmart Pharmacy

There's a very simple ad out now for Walmart's pharmacies that I always watch when I see it on tv, but I can't find it yet online.
So, for now, here's a fun-to-watch older ad for Walmart Pharmacy.  Trippy visuals!

Fios commercial

There's a new ad out from Verizon (Fios) for their Multi-room DVR that makes me laugh so hard at the end!

Out of all the other ads with the "other" cable guy, "Shocking," below, is my favorite...

I thought I'd also post an ad for Fios from two years back that I still like watching featuring Michael Bay:

See more ads from Verizon on their YouTube page.

Dog ads!

Saw these two ads in a dog magazine at the doctor's office... wonderful visuals in both!

BASF "We Create Chemistry"

(This is my favorite ad of 2010 so far!)

Getting Close... (Dentyne commercial)

This commercial is not what it seems! And that's why I like it!
I especially like the tag: "Practice safe breath."

I hope Dentyne will start to feature more ads on their YouTube page. Until then, visit their website to find out more about their products or to play games. Or check out their Twitter and Facebook pages...

(Here are some screenshots)

Lexus and Ryan Leslie's "The Rushers"

After "Milestones," I had to find more from the Lexus brand...

Leave it to Lexus to pair up with R and B/Hip-hop artist (and now actor) Ryan Leslie to create the innovative movie, "The Rushers," below, promoting the GX460 SUV.  This video was inspired by Ryan Leslie's short film/music video, "Diamond Girl" (also below.)

Find out more about the campaign at "The Rushers" page on  (there you can see the other videos, "White Rabbit" and "Black Box") and also at And see the initial preview of the campaign here

Lexus Hybrids' "Milestones"

When a commercial makes me say "Wow!,"  I'm definitely going to post it... here's "Milestones" from Lexus (promoting their hybrid vehicles)...

"Another Language"

Maybe you've already seen "Worst Seat," from CareerBuilder, but have you seen "Another Language" (below)??  ...I'm back and forth when it comes to gross humor in advertising but this ad gives me the giggles!

And here's a behind-the-scenes of some of CareerBuilder's more recent ads... enjoy!

See more of their ads on the CareerBuilder YouTube page.

Captain Morgan's Captains...

I think Captain Morgan's "Calling All Captains" campaign is funny, positive and encouraging. Check out some of the ads below... (my favorite is the first one!)

(Found this one at - there's also another version with a different ending...)

Captain Improv

Captain Icebreaker

Captain Morgan also has a Facebook page.

(Into brackets? Enter "Captain Bracketmaster Challenge" here.)

As simple as a tea label...

I am OBSESSED with tea.  I drink at least four cups a day and I'm really not too picky. I adore Teavana teas, but when it comes to Earl Grey, Bigelow is one of my favorite brands.

And as much as I love simple teas, I love simple forms of advertising... like Bigelow's website,, on their tea tags. There I found recipes made with tea (with beautiful photographs), tea health benefits, tea gifts, entertaining ideas, tea events and of course, the section I was first drawn to:

... Bigelow advertising.  (The martini ad is my favorite, see a screenshot of their website below.)

Find out more about Bigelow Teas on their website and at their "Universitea."
All this brand connection from a tiny little label...

Sears' Breakdance Crew

The end of the ad below, for the Kenmore Elite "Multi-motion" Washer from Sears, always makes me laugh! Check out "Breakdance Crew":

I also like Sears' "Cold Feet" featuring Brett Favre...

Find more ads from Sears on their YouTube page.

And find out more about Kenmore laundry products on their website and also at
(I can't stop watching Kenmore's SmartMotion technology demonstration!)

Planters with Sea Salt

Here's a funny commercial from Planters

You can also see this ad at - and there's a longer 30 sec. version, too...
I even like this one better than "Perfume" from Super Bowl 42.

Friskies' Adventureland

The commercial below from  Friskies  is best watched without sound - the music drives me crazy!
I think the art direction is so imaginative...

"Lots of Questions"

The new commercial below from American Express highlights, "where business owners can connect with one another."  I think the casting is spot-on, as well as the choices of professions... it really stood out to me, even at the gym without sound:

New from Target (Spring!)

Saw a gorgeous ad for  Liberty of London for Target  last night:

T. Rowe Price "Rice" commercial and "Ink"

Sometimes the gym really is the best place to choose the ads I blog about because I find out which ads truly stand out to me without sound.
Today's examples come from T. Rowe Price.  Below are "Rice" and "Ink."
What do you think??

"From oil drilling in the North Sea to fishing markets in Japan, T. Rowe Price understands the connections of a complex global economy. It's just one reason to consider our investment services, including mutual fund management and retirement planning."

Another Kindle ad!

There's a new ad out for the Kindle!  I love these ads so much that I had to post the first one again. Here's the new one, followed by the first that I saw last November... ENJOY!

(Just like the Google commercials, these ads feature stop-motion animation. I found them on

Boost Mobile lawyers

Sometimes, Boost Mobile ads drive me crazy! (Like "Pet Carrier.")

But the spooning lawyers below definitely hit my funny bone!

See more Boost Mobile ads on their YouTube page.

Hidden Valley Ranch

As a child, I was pretty much raised as a bunny rabbit...
Here are two kid-friendly commercials I've seen on air for a while now for Hidden Valley Ranch with the tagline, "Make vegetables delectable."

I think these ads make eating vegetables look like so much fun!

(I love the cauliflower "popcorn" and the ranch-topped "ice cream cone"...)

Connect more with the brand at, the Hidden Valley Facebook and Twitter pages, and where you can get tips on hosting a Jennie Garth (from 90210)-inspired "Garden Party."

AXE Hair Action

The description of the YouTube video below (promoting AXE's new contest, the "Hair Action Challenge") reads, "Pro QB Matthew Stafford is challenging guys and girls to take the Hair Action Challenge for a chance to win great prizes from AXE." (I couldn't sum it up any better!)
I think this football player in this ad is a great casting choice. Axe sometimes has really annoying, arrogant characters in their ads and this guy is neither of those things; he's kinda sweet actually.
         Check out the commercial:

Here's another promotional video, "Exotic Positions"

And a behind-the-scenes of the ads:

Find out more on the AXE YouTube page, their homepage and on the contest's Facebook page.

Stride Gum's "Mega Mystery" flavor

I've been a fan of  Stride Gum and their commercials for a while now.
Their latest commercial for the new "Mega Mystery" flavor totally cracks me up!

Here's a screenshot of

Target Pharmacy

Target usually pulls out all the stops for their ads, but their pharmacy-focused commercials are a little more simple.
Take this ad below for example - I can't get enough of it for some reason!  Maybe it's the song...

Here are some screenshots from the Target Pharmacy website:

Bank of America "Doors"

The spot below by Bank of America starting airing over a year ago, but I saw it on TV a few days ago and I still really like the concept and art direction.

Here's "Doors"

More NBA puppets

Found more funny commercials featuring the Nike Basketball Puppets (on the Nike Basketball YouTube page) since my last post on the subject... The first is my favorite!

"This is inspired performance. This is the way of Infiniti."

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Weight Watchers' "Hungry"

Weight Watchers has a few ads running featuring a new "spokesanimal" called "Hungry."

I really like the copy in these ads, as well as the little mascot dude Hungry himself.  Watch a few of them below...

(I found these commercials on Weight Watchers' "Lose for Good" YouTube page.)

More Reckless Driving Prevention

Recently, I've seen a few more commercials for reckless driving prevention (since my last post) that I thought I'd share with the tagline: "There is no spokesperson to prevent reckless driving."
I hope these make an impact.

Here's one I've seen on

And here's another encouraging teens to "speak up"...

Learn more about reckless driving prevention campaigns at (which leads to, and (More articles here and here.)

Ally Bank

At first, I didn't really like the ads below from Ally Bank (not to be confused with Alli weight loss system). But for some reason now, I think they're really witty... Here are some of the commercials I've seen running lately (the first two are my favorite):

(I found the majority of these ads on Ally Bank's YouTube page.)
